PROJECT PORTFOLIO IV
The project task was to produce a full-length master, including three alternative versions of a song for client approval. The techniques used to create the remix include understanding the form, time signature, tempo, key, and harmonic structure of the track, creating a tempo map, and adding new elements to create a remix.
VARIATION ONE
I created a halftime 16-bar groove over the first mix stem of the song. I used ProTools and the Boom virtual instrument to construct the beat and sculpt the kick and snare. I also utilized a tape delay plugin set to 500 milliseconds, compression set to a 1:3 ratio, and EQ
VARIATION TWO
I added live percussion content mix stem-two by recording a salt shaker to emulate a shaker, clapping my hands, hitting Keys on a key ring to emulate a metal percussive instrument, and a box smacked with a wooden spoon to create the sound of a Cajon.
I recorded these sounds using my H5-Zoom recorder, placing it as close as possible to my hands and recording each of the claps and Salt shaker.

I positioned the mic about 3 feet away to get a sound that would not drive the recorder into clipping. I mixed these sounds with the stem of one of the songs and played the instruments at halftime. I played each sound and then edited them using Logic Pro and Pro Tools to mix.
VARIATION THREE
I created sound effects for mix stem-three, the portion of the song that drops and rises. I sampled a wine bottle hit with a spoon and edited the sample in Logic Pro using the Quick Sampler virtual instrument to ensure the percussive element was at note C3 to play in key with the song. I also created a sample of myself walking along a squeaky wooden floor. I sampled this sound and utilized Logic Pro for editing. I exported the audio files into Pro Tools. I used automation to have each sample raise in volume to create the psycho-acoustic illusion of someone walking toward a microphone, hitting a percussive instrument. I also implemented a reverb and mod delay to give the samples room to breathe and fit into the mix.
